- Safe children
- Strong families
- Supportive communities.
We support family services that are working to achieve this aim. Many of these organisations are FamS members, but we also help and provide advice to other organisations working in this field.
Supporting our members
Our members provide over 300 service outlets throughout NSW where strengths-based practice allows families to grow in skills, confidence and capacity to provide a safe environment for their families. They provide services such as home visiting, parenting groups, playgroups, individual counselling, connections to community activities and supported referrals.
We help our members:
- Make a difference in the lives of vulnerable families and children
- Operate as well-governed and well-managed organisations
- Maintain and acquire the resources they need.
We do this by:
- Keeping in regular contact with members
- Being aware of the evidence base that supports and informs the work
- Being involved in strategies and forums that inform and influence government, funders and the sector
- Prioritising tasks that best achieve the positive results we want
- Collecting data that supports our priorities, and reviewing the effectiveness of our work. In doing this we always ask ‘How much did we do?’, ‘How well did we do it?’ and ‘Is anybody better off?
What we don’t do
While we do support family services, FamS is not an industrial body. For industrial matters, employees should contact their union, and employers and management committees are encouraged to join an employers’ association. As its employers’ association FamS uses Jobs Australia (contact 1800 331 915, www.ja.com.au).
