ACOSS NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2012 - “Sharing the Wealth of the ‘Lucky’ Country”
29-30 March 2012, Australian Technology Park, Sydney
Registrations are now open for the 2012 ACOSS National Conference – the premier national event for policy-makers, researchers and those engaged in social services or advocacy across Australia.
Early-bird discounts are now available until the 27th of January. Make sure you get in early to secure your seats at our conference. Online registrations can be made by visiting the conference page on the ACOSS website: http://www.acoss.org.au/events/view/acoss_2012_national_conference. This year we are offering member prices to delegates from all NCOSS member organisations so be sure to make the most of this discounted offer.
The ACOSS conference theme for 2012 is ‘Sharing the wealth of the lucky country’. Australians’ material wealth is booming but the proceeds are not being equally shared. New research shows that inequalities are rising in Australia. While the post-tax income of the poorest households is actually falling, the richest Australian households continue to earn more and more.
It is an important moment, therefore, to reflect on what must be done to ensure Australia remains the fair and inclusive society we pride ourselves on being. As always, the ACOSS National Conference will be an engaging and thought-provoking event. We’re presenting a diverse array of speakers and session topics including:
• tax and welfare reform
• workforce participation
• the state of welfare internationally
• the rising cost of living
• housing affordability
• child wellbeing, and
• improving health outcomes in Australia.
Conference highlights include a panel of young leaders discussing contemporary challenges to the sector and their visions of youth engagement, social action, advocacy and policy development and the “Imagining Australia in 2030” session where a panel of distinguished Australians (including Rebecca Huntley, Eva Cox and George Megalogenis) will outline their vision for our country’s future. We have also invited the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader to present their visions for improving equality and fairness and addressing the great wealth divide.
We hope to see you all in Sydney for the conference in March, and don’t forget to register by January 27 to get your early-bird discount.
